Does anybody have any idea how to deal with a crack in the hull of a boat? I irritatingly have one in mine, and the sodding thing keeps filling up with water. I would be most grateful for any instruction or advice on fixing boats. Probably won't be able to paddle the bloody thing at the Tyne Tour either. I am sorely vexed.

Robb.

I'll be bringing my (now c1) Diesel to Tyne Tour. The repair (linked to) seems to be holding well.

Also TV can tell you how you could simply use a tent peg instead of a blowtorch spoon to fix a small crack...

Don't give up on it quite yet.

AvatarI've recently welded cracks in both my boats. They don't look nice, but seem to be waterproof. I'll be taking the Jefe out this weekend for testing. I'd be happy to advise.

After splitting my inazone in scotland last year I fixed it with a small blowtorch (ie the type used for caramelising sugar) and a traffic cone.
Many people will say "cut some plastic off the back of the cockpit rim to make sure it's the same type / grade of plastic" but I found a traffic cone works fine.

It'll never be as strong as it was before, but it's watertight. I wouldn't take it on a difficult river (ie with rocks) in case of a collision - but it's fine in the surf etc.  I suppose that last comment depends on where the crack is, and how good your plastic-welding skills are!
