Avatari'm interested in doing the level one at some point before I leave uni to go with my SPA, but I guess I'm probably better leaving it another year?

People that have never actually sat in a boat are able to do the course. I think you are more that equiped to do it.

not entirely the case... if you want to become a bank based coach then you can do L1 without any paddling experience (you still need to understand the strokes etc though), but this isn't really aimed at active club paddlers - more for parents that want to help out at their kids' club, competition coaches, and that sort of thing. I'd suggest for anyone looking to coach at the uni or afterwards commercially, this would be fairly pointless - i can't see us wanting to employ a bank based L1 - they couldn't do the job we need them to do.

If you want a boat based L1 then you need a good 2* standard in both canoe and kayak, and FSRT.

Avatar"I still have several places still available on the regional L1 course, taking place on 17/18 & 24/25 April. The cost of a place on the course is £95, a massive saving on what these are normally advertised at. The course is being subsidised by the regional coaching fund, to make it more accessable to club paddlers."

Anyone interested in doing this should leap at the opportunity! It's a great price, and the union will pay half of the cost anyway, so no complaints about money. Do it!
