AvatarNow then! I've forgotten how to paddle and now it's getting warmer I want to get on some rivers. I was looking in my lovely free BCU kayaking book last night and I saw the Washburn in Yorkshire. I was wondering if anyone has been there and knows whether it's worth a trip? It's only grade 2/3 but I genuinely feel quite nervous thinking about paddling now so I'm not sure I'd want to do much harder than that! I haven't looked at release dates yet but I was thinking about Sunday the 2nd May (bank holiday weekend) and I didn't know if anyone wanted to meet me for a day's kayaking? I'm only looking up here because Wales is missions away from Tessside! There is always the Tees of course but I'm not really sure what section is a good kind of level etc etc. Anyone interested or have any suggestions?

Avatarit's where they hold the busa wild water racing. from memory it's quite short with lots of flat and a couple of rapids which you could quite happily run blind. the tees is good as if it's low then you can do low force to high force, and if it's high you can do the section below that.

AvatarI'm not sure I ever want to do low force to high force. You would need some super guns.

Washburn was a laugh at WWR. Wouldn't take very long to bosh down it though, you'd want something else to do afterwards. Maybe take a picnic?

AvatarYeah the Tees might be good then. It's just if I don't paddle before October then I'll basically be back at Fresher level again!

If anyone's interested I'll look into dates :)

Avatarthe washburn is a really nice short section of river just bouncy without much need to get out of a boat you could easily run several times in a day and would help get your confidence up, there are no/few eddies but not much to watch out 4 maybe two exciting bits, but the rest is good fun, would reckomend great fun!

AvatarWhen I was paddling up here last Summer I heard about this fabled Washburn. I'm sure you can get plenty of 'accurate' information from Ukrgb, but as you asked opinions, rumours and hear-say I'll give you some [of mine].
- May require dam release
- a thin river that's 'fast flowing'
- it's 'fun'

These are all hearsay from people who thought the lower tyne was highly entertaining though so don't get your hopes or fear up! :) With a few reasonably experienced paddlers it should be a fun trip.
