If anyone would be interested in going on a BCU course about safety etc please post here asap and i'll let let you know what forms need filling in etc. It costs £55 but you will be able to claim some of this back from warwicksport. Chris is kindly driving you up there and will help you sort out accomodation. 

DATES = 14th 15th OCTOBER

The course is essentially the following:

Aimed at students who are responsible for club events and trips. The programme for the weekend will be a mix of presentations, discussion groups and practical sessions covering...

Risk and responsibility, Advance play and safe styles for Novices, White water safety and leadership, First aid for paddlers, River trip planning, Overseas trips, and personal skills as well as looking at the legal responsibilities within the club structure, transport and maintenance and monitoring of club equipment.

Hehe, it does now, true.

However, a couple of years ago and further when I went on similar courses in Scotland they were wicked. You'd have awesome instuctors (level 5 coaches) teaching you things on rivers that may be harder than those you'd consider running yourself or under the 'leadership' of charlatans like me.

This course sounds a bit less practical and is shorter than the Scotland ones, with perhaps more indoor lecture type stuff, but I'm sure it'll have plenty of practical elements and the other stuff is no doubt useful. If you're considering being an executive committee member one day and have the balls to put what you've learned into practice then I'd recommend it.

Don't be put off by the anti-establishment TV Tom Strongman!
